When someone dies there may be urgent time sensitive steps needed to be taken
Registration of the death, may proceed as normal, or there may be added bureaucracy or complications where the deceased: -
- Died abroad and needs repatriated to the UK for burial,
or
- Died in the UK but expressed a testamentary wish to be buried abroad
Where there is to be an inquest then application for an interim death certificate will be needed to permit the deceased to be buried, before the inquest is completed
Where there is no direct evidence of death 2 separate applications will be needed by a surviving spouse
- An application for a decree of presumption of under section 19 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973.
- Followed by an application to a district judge for leave to swear the death of the deceased
